New Orleans Feb 3 John A Morris of the Louisiana Lottery Company addresses Louisiana about a proposed constitutional amendment granting a twenty five year lottery charter in exchange for a yearly license tax of 1 250 000 The company opposes the amendment citing the anti lottery postal law and says it will not accept or qualify under the charter even if adopted by the people They will respect the federal law and abstain from violations and would not accept a new charter even without any license tax.
In South Lawrence at 7 p.m. a Boston and Maine passenger train struck a wagon driven by North Andover patent medicine dealer Dr Magoon. The horse and man died instantly, wagon demolished, horse hurled about 200 feet. No gates at the crossing despite five prior fatal accidents. flagman lantern failed to warn. Magoon, about 65, leaves a daughter.
Delegates from eighteen clubs met at the Revere House with President Walter Stimpson in charge. The treasurer reported 862555 in funds. A bylaws amendment on suspensions drew debate and passed.
