Fire destroyed the Converse Works facility in Malden, with one fireman injured as flames engulfed the building. Crews battled the blaze for hours, and investigators search the charred site for a cause.
Boston officials assure the public there is no danger of a dynamite explosion here. A Post reporter learned that the city does not handle anywhere near the 35 tons involved in the New York incident. The largest daily landing claimed is 35 to 50 pounds.
Dr Pantchenko testifies in his own defense revealing he accepted offers to poison Count Bouturlin General Bouturlin and his wife. He previously confessed to the murder and is now the chief witness as the trial continues. The widow of the murdered count describes further circumstantial details.
Washington February 2. For the first time in Senate history the Vice President cast a tie breaking vote after three roll calls. His first vote saved the ocean mailership subsidy bill and his third forced adjournment on a measure related to direct election of Senators by the people.
The subsidy bill failed to reach a clear majority as votes stood 39 ayes to 39 nays in committee and 387 to 37 in the Senate with the Vice President voting in the affirmative each time. Clarence Watson, the new West Virginia Democrat, was briefly present and voted on one roll call before an adjournment.
A man believed dangerously insane entered the Mayor's office after 10 am and demanded to see the Mayor. He fought two officers, was restrained by staff, and placed under observation at Pierce Farm for the Insane. He claimed to be Henry Stewart of California and threatened to "clean the place out."

A spectacular fire lit the sky for miles, drawing hundreds as a blaze consumed a building near the United States n ire depot. High winds scattered sparks toward the explosive storage while depot workers stayed at their posts. Hoseman Frank Sergent collapsed from smoke and was taken to Malden Hospital with non serious injuries.
Miss Ella O. Bain a 24 year old domestic in Newtonville tried to kill herself with a .22 revolver late last night. She was found unconscious in bed by Charles W. Solomon and rushed to Newton Hospital where doctors expect she will likely recover barring complications.
