Star Tables To Aid Navigators
Washington Feb. 2 An important aid to navigation has been issued by the hydrographic office a 364 page volume of star tables enabling a navigator to identify stars even through clouding in storms. By recognizing a few stars the navigator can determine ship position at sea regardless of sun or moon. The bureau says the task arose from the growing need for frequent astronomical observations to deduce geographic positions on the oceans.

Navy committee defends witness rights amid reorganization clash
A mixed committee of Republicans and Democrats led by Chairman Foss opposed to the secretary’s plan began investigations in December. They resisted reports that Rear-Admiral Capps and Rear-Admiral Rogers would be disciplined for testimony critical of the secretary’s reorganization. Both officers testified fully after requests, and the committee denounced any attempt to discipline witnesses, asserting the right to call naval officers and compel questions, with plans to report to the House if discipline occurred.
