Cambridge Celebrates Toll Free West Boston and Canal Bridges
Citizens of Cambridge marked the abolition of tolls on the West Boston and Canal or Cragie's Bridges with a sunrise bell and cannon salutes. A large procession included police, the Hancock Free Bridge Corporation, city officials, and thousands of residents as bridges were surrendered to Mayor Sargent. The piece recounts bridge histories and notes Charlestown plans to follow, with accompanying notices on Caledonia Ball and local lectures and exhibitions.
