State Board reports rise in tax funded public school spending
The annual report notes public school funding from taxation exceeded a quarter of a million dollars more than the prior year with voluntary contributions up over 50 percent. It urges greater Commonwealth aid to struggling towns through redistribution of the school fund while preserving local self reliance. A related section covers municipal suffrage for women and testimony before a committee, including figures on petitions and broad support, and the state arbitration board’s findings on labor and wages for 1888.
