Fleet of 11 troopships sails from France for homeward return
War Department disclosed today that 11 vessels including the battleships Kansas and Georgia and the armored cruiser North Carolina left French ports between December 25 and 27 carrying about 16 375 officers and men. The fleet’s last ship is expected to arrive in New York or Newport News on January 13. The ships were designated to fill army shortages, with quotas for Georgia 967 Kansas 1428 and North Carolina 1288. Total capacity from this source for around 20 000 men will be augmented by other naval transports. Among the units announced aboard are five complete field artillery regiments, the 125th.
