The New York and the Etruria raced in sight for three days from Southampton and Liverpool, with the Cunarder Etruria finally passing the New York at sea near 42.21 N 62.37 W on December 28. The New York later assisted the disabled Red Star liner Vertation of the Red Star line, towed into Southampton by the Somerhill. The Westernland lost her propeller.

Fireman Injured By Steam On Steamship Indian

Henry Fay a 38 year old Baltimore resident and fireman on the Steamship Indian of the Boston and Philadelphia line was struck in the face by escaping steam from a boiler room valve. The incident occurred early yesterday morning and Fay was taken to Emergency Hospital where doctors feared possible loss of sight in his left eye.

Megantic battered in gale near Queenstown harbor

The British steamer Lake Megantic, Captain Taylor, from Liverpool and Queenstown bound for St John, returned to Queenstown Harbor Sunday morning after a terrible gale experience. She left Queenstown on Wednesday.

Second Mate Falls From Ladder Aboard Jaynes

William Christie second mate of the sailing ship Jaynes at Mystic wharf fell from a ladder on the bridge yesterday afternoon about twenty five feet to the deck breaking his right wrist and injuring his spine. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital by ambulance.
