Police booked Richard P. Mevins 21 of 1% West Four Street after he was caught stealing an overcoat from G. Berkowitz at 4th Street home. Investigations continue as officers from Station 63 connect him to recent larcenies across the district.
Thieves used false keys and rear windows to enter homes in South Boston and nearby districts. Police say they have no suspects, while pawnshops draw extra scrutiny as a key way to recover stolen goods. In one break in at 13 P Street, a large silverware cache and other items valued around 50 dollars were looted. Another burglary at 722 East Second Street targetted a gold watch an old coat and fur.
George B. Perry ex-president of Victorian Diamond Jubilee Asston, living at 441 Third Street, chased a young thief on H Street last night. The man, about 18, six feet three, wore dark clothes and grabbed Perry's watch breaking the chain. The thief flung the watch across the street and fled down an alley with part of the chain. Perry recovered the watch intact aside from a broken cry, and the case was turned over to police.
Last night burglars entered John Donagheys house at 33 Kennard Street by an unknown key. Stolen items include a silver watch a ladies gold watch a pen holder a bulldog revolver and small amount of money. Police at Station 12 are investigating the incident.
