Hon John L Bates is ill and confined to his Boston home with malaria. He suffered a sudden attack on Wednesday and has endured treatment by Dr Mor. Officials say his condition is a dangerous stage and he may be able to attend the inaugural exercises on Monday if improved.
Charlies H. Cole of the Globe Bank of Boston faced a $900,000 charge when arrested in Los Angeles. A U S telegram directed Boston authorities to hold Cole under guard as he waived a preliminary hearing for the start of proceedings.
