Greenwich residents honored Abraham Lincoln Ford for risking his life to save two sailors on Thanksgiving Day. Ford, a former Navy man who earned a bravery medal, was presented a gold watch inscribed to recognize his courage.
New York December 24. Success in raising a 20 million dollar Methodist offering fund leaves about one million left to reach the target. A yet unnamed donor has pledged the final gift to be announced at a New Year’s Eve watch meeting at Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church in Springfield Massachusetts. Rumors point to Rockefeller Carnegie Vanderbilt as likely contributors while Rev Dr Edmund M Mills confirms the gift is underwritten.
New Haven, Conn. Dec 24. Will of William H. Fowler presented for probate reveals $300000 estate. The 80 year old bachelor reclusive farmer from Hamden owned gilt edge securities that have doubled in value. Property to be divided among about a dozen heirs.
New York Dec 24 Dr. Austin Flint states Mr Vanderbilt has turned the corner and will get well after leaving the Vanderbilt residence at 10 45 tonight.
David W. Grover was instantly killed in a New York & New Haven line wreck near the North Dartmouth flag station. His daughters Bessie 14 and Clara 18 died soon after, with a woman passenger mortally injured and later amputations performed. The train attempted to stop at the crossing but struck the carriage, mangling all aboard. The woman remains unconscious, fate uncertain, as authorities seek identities among shoppers from nearby towns.
Forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for snow and a warming on Thursday with brisk to high south to west winds. Friday will be fair and decidedly colder with high west to northwest winds. Across New England the Thursday snow gives way to warmer conditions, with brisk to high east to southeast winds, and Friday will be fair and much colder except for snow in eastern Maine.
