A sensational trial in Tours France features the Count and Countess D Aulby de Gatigney charged with swindling the Duchess de Choiseul Praslin formerly Mrs Charles Hamilton Paine of Boston. Auditors witness a shift from disorder to weeping as the court drama unfolds.
Reputable business and professional men in Tours testified at the session praising D Aulby and his wife for their charity to the sick and needy, saying they were loved nationwide. M Diot, president of the Tours Association of Lawyers, stated that D Aulby insisted on a contract clause disallowing guaranteed authenticity of the painting Antiope sold to the late Mr Paine.
Clarence Casevan, 47, a freight conductor for the New York, New Haven & Hartford, was crushed beneath moving train wheels while connecting cars in freight yard No 4 near Congress street. Brakeman James Jellison, 23, married and of 15 Glenwood street, suffered a twisted ankle and crushed foot in a failed rescue attempt. The engineer claims he saw the lantern signal go ahead as the men were between cars. Jellison swung on a ladder to reach Casevan but fell after losing balance, though he hurled himself outward to save him. Continued on Page 3-Second Column.
Hattie LeBlanc in a public statement says she did not shoot Clarence F. Glover and expresses grief for his death. She voices intense dislike for Mrs. Glover, calls her a very bad woman, and offers to testify in Boston if needed. She says she hid in the house but cannot explain Mrs. Glover’s movements.
London reports Cecil S. Grace disappeared Thursday afternoon while attempting a return flight from Calais to Dover in fog. A large search by cars and warships combed the east coast and North Sea, but no trace or wreckage was found as night fell, leaving some hopeful for a late rescue or error in reckoning.
Grace offered a 20000 dollar prize to a British aviator in a British built aeroplane for the greatest distance including the English Channel this year. T Sopwith set 174 miles, Grahame White prepared but had a serious accident before launching. Grace faced few days to beat Sopwith before proceeding.
Two men attempted a safe breaking at an Albany street liquor store when Dudley Street police arrived after witnesses Daniel McGoldrick and John Bartel reported the disturbance. One suspect Thomas Costello, of Vernon Street Roxbury, was captured. his accomplice escaped.
