Adriatic Rescues Allan Crew As Talmage Tabernacle Fire Rises

The Adriatic arrived from Liverpool amid storms and a broken screw. It rescued nine Allan crewmen after the Bathurst bound ship drifted a week with no rudder and flooding. Fire at De Talmage's Tabernacle destroyed much of the structure, prompting plans for a brick replacement. Wreck of a Liverpool packet claims thirty lives

A Bordeaux dispatch reports the Liverpool packet Germania ran ashore on a Gironde sand bank during a violent storm. Passengers and crew fled to the rigging as water broke over the ship, thirty were washed away, and the survivors were rescued the next morning by a French steamship. Paris. Rome reports a consistory with Cardinal presence and a papal allocution denouncing Italian anti church measures and other church-right encroachments.

Loss of Steamship Germany Reported in London

London reports at midnight that the steamship Germany of the Atlas Line was totally wrecked yesterday. No details or confirmation were provided. The rumor may stem from confusion with the Germania, a Liverpool packet previously reported lost off the Gironde. The Germany was due to sail from Liverpool on December 17 for Havana and New Orleans.

Destructive Portland Fire Worse Block Loss Tops 350000
