In New York on December 22 the Rev. Dr. C. D. Aked, pastor of Rockefeller's church, demanded 7000 dollars from a robber at the end of his sermon and received the money before leaving the church.
Addressing his wealthy congregation at the close of the sermon Dr Abed arrived from Liverpool to lead Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. He scolded the practice of relying on a few rich members, saying it is unfair and mean spirited. He demanded reorganized finances and a $7000 target before departure, warning he will not stay if the system persists.
The Santa Claus Editor appeals to Post readers to answer remaining letters from children asking for visits from Santa. Many volunteers are needed to take on cases and forward letters to supporters. Today is the last day for action with tomorrow noon as the final cutoff.
Dr. W Walton Woolsey Winthrop, descendant of John Winthrop and prominent New England lineage, died aged 75 in Hotel Harrington New York after pneumonia. A Yale graduate and former Union surgeon, he led a roaming life with three world-wide voyages and long stays abroad, including travels with Lord William Beresford through Africa and Egypt. His wife Miss Mary Elizabeth Francis survives.
Brockton December 22 volunteers from across the state join the hunt for the two missing Ball children. Despite extensive efforts by police and new search parties in woods near Oak and Main and west of Potter's ice pond, no trace is found. Father John Ball plans to visit his wife at Taunton Asylum to learn more.
Four youths drowned after breaking thin ice on Sunday at Pittsfield with names Anna Mozemer 20 Henry And 19 Fred Norris 17 John Moore 17 listed among the victims.

Dec. 22 Boston financier Thomas W. Lawson nominates Theodore Roosevelt for President and John A. Johnson for Vice-President of Minnesota and says he will launch a new party to back the Lawson ticket. He met President Roosevelt at the White House and plans a formal statement for publication soon, asserting his candidates will be his party’s nominees regardless of Roosevelt’s stance. Lawson claims party organization in every state.
George Robertson, 55, escaped a boarding house fire near Fore River yards East Howard street Quincy, then returned to help fight the flames and suffocated. His body found on a bed after the 3 a.m. blaze. the house housed nearly a dozen people, all of whom escaped. Robertson worked at the Fore River plant and leaves a Boston wife and daughter Mary, who works at the Waltham watch factory. The property is owned by the John Moynihan heirs.
Dennis Skulley, 55, of 13 Emmet Street, South Boston, nearly died last night after mistaking disinfectant for medicine and taking a liberal dose. He may recover.
An explosion in a manhole at Washington and West Springfield streets blocked the L structure and surface lines for miles. A fire burned a feed box three miles away at Tremont street and Huntington avenue, crippling that division and delaying thousands of passengers for nearly two hours.
A manhole explosion caused a fireball that drew over 2000 spectators. Fire crews battled flames creeping through the L road woodwork while Dedham street police kept the crowd at bay. No injuries reported. The blast occurred shortly after 3 pm as a hotel window residents feared an earthquake.
Blanche M. Willen a 23 year old of Portland was accidentally shot in the head by Martin McCloud a 30 year old Grand Trunk railway clerk at her home 95 India street. She was taken to Maine General Hospital with a chance for recovery and the single cartridge was the only one in the revolver.
Mrs. Amaria Rines, 68, widow of brick manufacturer John F. Rines, was burned by a kerosene lamp in the storeroom of her Boscawen home. She ran into the snow to extinguish the flames but died from the burns. servants were away at the time.
Forecast for Boston and vicinity shows fair conditions Monday then rain or snow. Tuesday expects rain or snow with easterly to southerly winds. Washington reports: fair Monday in New England, then rain Monday night in the south and snow in the north, with rain Tuesday and warmer temperatures. Eastern New York to have rain Monday afternoon or night, then rain Tuesday with brisk south winds.
