On December 22 the money market stayed firm with business paper at 4 to 7 percent, manufacturing paper at 5 to 5.5 percent, call loans 6 to 9 percent, and New York funds at a 15 to 20 cent premium. Clearing house money remained in demand at 6.5 to 7 percent, and government securities quiet with 4s at 110 to 110 1/ and 4s at 127 1/2 to 128 1/2. The October statement showed a poor month of earnings for the period ending Oct 31 1886 with a surplus drop and decreased net earnings. Shares in Atchison and Union Pacific moved up and down, with various other railroad notes trading. A dividend was declared by the Pacific National Bank of Boston and other securities moved on the day.
