Wreck of Intercolonial Express at Levis Kills Five

An express train from Halifax on the Intercolonial railway wrecked near Levis, killing five and injuring many. The derailment occurred at St. Joseph embankment after the second class car jumped the track on a curve. Assets around $1,853,000 with liabilities about $1,400,000 include $850,000 owed depositors and $900,000 to banks. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union and allied groups held deposits, with several thousand added just before closing. Temperance organizations shoulder over $30,000 in the wreckage.
