Stranger Swindles City National Bank With Forged Draft

In Dallas on Saturday a man using the name George Coleman swindled the City National Bank out of 6100 with a forged draft on New York posed as from a Norfolk bank. A prior draft from the same bank was genuine, delaying suspicion.

Prince Wins 10 Mile Bicycle Race At Institute Fair

In a second meeting between John 8 Prince and Lewis T Frye at the Institute fair building, an even start produced rapid riding before about 1,000 spectators. Prince won by about a yard in 82m 44s, beating the best time on record. Leprosy Declared in Salem Case at Almshouse

Charles Derby, housed at the Salem almshouse, was on Monday declared a leper by Boston doctors Walcott and Allen after a full examination. Former Salem resident, Derby spent years in the Sandwich Islands where he caught the disease. His flesh is in a horrible condition and death may come soon. Locals show excitement near the almshouse but doctors say the disease is not contagious except by contact.

Essex county awards iron work contract for Rocks bridge

On Monday the Essex county commissioners awarded the iron work contract for the Rocks bridge over the Merrimack between West Newbury and Haverhill to the Boston Bridge company for 10150 dollars. The sole rival bid from Kings Bridge company was 11944 dollars. Mason work had previously been awarded to Joseph Ross of Ipswich for about 29000 dollars. The total bridge cost is about 45000 dollars.

Old Winslow House Door-Knocker Gifted to Rev Winslow

The door-knocker from the Old Winslow House in Marshfield now belongs to Rev. William C. Winslow. Once presented by Daniel Webster to Rev. Gordon Winslow of Staten Island in 1850, it bears inscriptions noting its Mayflower 1620 origin and the 1850 presentation date. Boston historical societies may house the piece.

Roxbury Horse Guards Voted to Form Veteran Organization

At a meeting of the Roxbury Horse Guards old members held at Bacon Hall armory in Roxbury, a veteran organization was formed with a adopted constitution and by laws. The first annual meeting is set for Monday January 8 1833 and a nominating committee for officers was appointed. Young earl of Aylesford creditors settle through special act

The young earl of Aylesford faced bankruptcy in London with debts totaling about £ 1,099,600 to Eagle Insurance, his lawyer, Lord Hastings and tradesmen. A special act was obtained in the House of Lords, and trustees were appointed to manage assets worth about £ 750,000 to receive rents and raise money to pay the debts.
