Firefighters battle two hour blaze in Melrose home
Firemen fought a two hour partition fire at 969 Main Street Melrose Highlands last night as subzero temperatures froze hydrants delaying water supply. Mrs Margaret Clark the occupant and invalid stayed inside until extinguished. Her daughter Miss Ann Clark returned from Boston and stayed with Armour W Clark treasurer of Melrose Trust at 28 Crystal Street.

Fire Sweeps Abbottford Apartment Hotel Killing Two
A blaze ripped through the Abbottford at 186 Commonwealth Avenue early today. A man leapt from the fourth floor and died on arrival at the hospital. A woman died in the flames and an 80 year old resident, Mrs Edward E Cole, perished on the top floor. Several others were injured and rescued by firemen. The man was identified as W S Whitney, linked with the American Woolen Company. His wife suffered severe burns but reached the street.
