Williams of Michigan at death's door in House
Gen Williams of Michigan, stricken with apoplexy yesterday, lies at death's door and is among the most efficient House members. He served in the war, was Democratic candidate for Michigan governor in 1866, and was elected to the last and present Congress in a Republican district. His death would force a House adjournment and pause all business. At 11 o'clock he was alive but unlikely to last the night. The Epidemic Committee has decided to appoint twelve scientific experts for the Yellow Fever inquiry and to travel to New Orleans, Memphis, and other infected districts. Congressman Morse urged Boston representation, likely Dr Samuel A. Green will join. The Contest for Nine Millions.
