Tod Sloan Wins $40 000 Suit Against Jockey Club

The Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling in favor of Tod Sloan the American jockey against the Jockey Club in a $40 000 suit over being warned off the turf related to Rose de Mar and the Prix de Diane at Chantilly in May 1902. Advocates say the ruling removes Sloan from the French turf scandal but may not improve his standing in England or the United States. Close friends say vindication may boost his chances of license to ride next season and lift the ban dating to 1901.
