In Chicago a man identified as Clarence H. Pettit fatally shot himself after pursuing a woman through a hotel corridor. The couple checked in as J. D. Brown and wife from Cincinnati, but police say the woman is Maud L. Moder. Pettit, married with a separated wife in Chicago, reportedly refused to marry her, triggering the tragedy.
Bedros Manoughian an Armenian of Providence Rhode Island and Lazaros Hagopian a 20 year old immigrant from Armenia aboard the Saxonia were arrested on perjury charges by immigration officials. Lazaros was detained on suspicion of a contagious eye disease. Bedros had claimed Lazaros was his son under oath to gain release, a claim the officials proved false.
In Fall River on December 16 the body of Leander Winslow aged 70 was recovered from a sand filled well where he was digging. A cave in buried him as he worked at the regular occupation of well digging.
