Four Years of Freedom and a Wardrobe Heist
Peter Herbert, an escaped Charlestown Prison inmate since October 4 1888, was arrested on Howard Street by Officer Hensey. He had served eight years of a twelve year burglary sentence, and was found with numerous coats and stolen items including keys, pocketbooks, a $20 bill, a screwdriver, knives, a silver knife with the name I A Tryon, and other cloaking garments. He denied his name at first, then identified by a photograph. Deputy Warden Hakins was summoned, and Herbert, in two black coats and a blue overcoat, was taken to the station.

Hanging to a Tree Dead Body of Milton Official Found
The body of J Walter Bradley of Milton was discovered in Mattapan woods. He was a member of the Milton Board of Selectmen and had vanished for two days. A note to his wife suggested he took his own life. Bradley had earlier been in Dedham and may have left on a top buggy with a horse. He was known as a former legislator and deputy sheriff with local club ties.
