Boston's New Charter Promises Strong Mayor Power For One Year

A Boston charter era begins with the mayor holding near autocratic authority for twelve months, backed by voter accountability at year’s end. The reform aims to curb waste, expand water and sewer projects, and advance street and park development, with broad support from taxpayers though critics warn of centralized power. Alderman Sullivan expresses pride in endorsements and pledges an untrammeled start to the new year, touting growth, fiscal responsibility, and municipal indebtedness controls.
