Water consumption in Cincinnati drops due to leak detector

The Cincinnati water use last year fell below 187 or 1850 levels, not from beer consumption but because waste water per person declined to 25 gallons daily from 35. The saving is credited to a waterphone leak detector, which stopped over 4,000 leaks and abuses.

Heavy floods hit Oregon and Washington territory

Heavy rains across Oregon and Washington territory for three days caused extensive damage to railroads and bridges. The Pendleton River rose rapidly forcing many residents to take refuge in trees overnight. Mills and houses were swept away, with no loss of life reported.

Hall Block Fire Destroys Toledo Landmark in Midwest blaze

The Hall block in Toledo was destroyed by fire after igniting at Music Hall. The 1874 building housed jobbing firms, law and insurance offices, and railroad company offices. Losses reach about 650000 with roughly 500000 insured across major firms including Saylor Rodgers & Co and Wood & Acklin.
