Post reporter queried if he was broke. Thomas W. Lawson declares his fortune equals 11.6 million dollars with 15 million at risk if ventures fail. He predicts 100 to 200 percent profits if operations succeed and says bankruptcy would force him to write. He asserts Trinity is secured, Santa Rita holdings sold, and Mexican mines protected.
Pittsburg December 14 President W Ellis Corey of United States Steel Corp says he may expose names of guests from a past Duquesne Club dinner. The plan allegedly targets Pittsburgh and New York millionaires tied to a reported pool buying Mrs Chadwick paper. An actress sang at the event and was distressed by the scene.
Congressman William S. McNary is to appear before District Attorney John B. Moran to explain a letter alleging charges by Mayor-elect John F. Fitzgerald. The meeting at the courthouse is scheduled between 1 and 8 this afternoon, as Moran requested. Moran's office says no investigation has begun into David Mancovitz the wardens alleged intimidation behind the rail.
The F Gray Company announces a large sale at its Washington and Hanover Streets locations. Shoppers are invited to save on a range of goods as prices are cut across departments. Limited quantities available, store hours posted.
A stubborn blaze at 728 Dudley Street Dorchester forced eight women and ten men to flee down narrow stairs as smoke and flames consumed the IL Fosdick apartment building. The residents escaped but their homes were wrecked.
A basement blaze at the R. M. White undertaking firm spread upward through apartments threatening tenants. Led by Mrs. W. R. Eliot the women fled through smoke filled exits with all but Miss Hawkes escaping unharmed. Fire damaged stores of G. B. Paul and R. M. White on the street floor.
A short medical ad notes relief for a sore throat and voice strain using Lung Ikuro. It lists a discount price of 10.90 dollars and references Gray Co. in Washington and Hanover.
A dead man, about 5 foot 7 inches, 160 pounds, bald with a gray mustache, fell to his death after being kicked on a staircase at the Model lodging house 1025 Washington Street. John J. Norton, 23, a clerk at the Model, is held on a manslaughter charge. George Washington and Saul Warnel provide eyewitness accounts. Norton has not spoken.
Neil Kellner, 27, stabbed a Blackstone street barroom window after a bartender refused a drink. He cut his left hand, fought Patrolman Connolly, and was captured after a tense chase. Police report hundreds witnessed the scene near the 10 PM incident. Dr. Dunn treated Kellner’s hand at Station 1. The ad at the end lists coats from Gray, Washington and Hanover streets.
Washington reports the Naval Academy will stamp out hazing of all kinds. Two midshipmen will be dismissed within days one for hazing the other for failing on duty to report it. Further dismissals will follow as guilty parties are found or as they countenance hazing.
Eva N. Randall testified in a long running dispute with George Banks a teamster and lodger at her home. She loaned him 200 to fight the divorce case and his wages were assigned to repay her. The matter was continued until tomorrow.
A 40 year mass escape from Charles street jail ended when criminal duo Charles Troward and Edward Carr fled on the eve of their court appearance. A bold young woman, credited for the plan, vanished with them after a wedding ceremony within the jail marked the ruse. Authorities rail at lax vigilance as Sheriff Seavey weighs the breach.

Following Touraine surrender of the hotel liquor license, Boston police ordered immediate closures of five Roxbury saloons and three in the West End. District Attorney Moran argued the hotel lay within 100 feet of a public school, violating statute. the board ordered a broader sweep with eight more licensed venues flagged near schools to cease operations.
The Police Board ordered several saloons closed yesterday including Ricky & Sullivan at 184 Cambridge street near Garden, Duffy Bros at 192 Cambridge near Garden, W F Joyce & Co at 287 239 Cambridge street, Cook & Gildea at 1401 Columbus Avenue, Arthur J O Neill at 1405 Columbus Avenue, John J Good at 179 Centre Street, William Jacobs at 1462 Columbus Avenue, and Reynolds & Ball at the junction of Columbus Avenue and Old Treath.
Eight saloons were closed by order of police commissioners or liquor license surrender in the Moran versus Police Board dispute. Saloons on Cambridge street near schools and on Columbus avenue near Germania Hall were shut due to proximity to schools and the law as applied by the court. The board cited police captain errors and schoolhouse location changes as reasons for the closures.
Civil Service commissioners notified Superintendent James Donovan that about 300 street department employees on the payroll are alleged to be illegal. The order targets mostly day laborers, following a payroll review that found names improperly listed. Secretary Dudley declined to detail the notice. Donovan offered no immediate comment.
Independent woolen manufacturers in Rhode Island and Connecticut announce a 10 percent wage raise effective January 1. Notices posted at Forr Alpaca Company Holyoke with 1700 workers, Coronet Worsted Mapleville 1000, Wickford Worsted Plainfield Woolen Central Yarn Mills Central Village Conn about 1000. Other mills include Leominster Worsted 200, Centredale Worsted 390, Saxonville Mills 609.
