Union troops pursue guerrillas and report strategic moves in Kentucky

Captain Bridgewater with 125 men entered Newcastle and forced Jessie from the area, with 13 rebels killed or wounded. He chased them toward Port Royal, eight minutes behind, as Col. Johnson telegraphs Lyon’s advance toward Russellville. Despatches confirm Union successes at Murfreesboro while Hood’s forces shift lines and rail depots burn in Tennessee. Ocean Queen brings $795000 in specie to New York

The steamer Ocean Queen from Aspinwall arrives with 795000 dollars in specie and California mails dated November 23. The Crest of the Wave reaches Valparaiso from Acapulco. only three men fit for duty, eleven died at sea, others sick. The Peruvian Congress orders recovery of the Chincha Islands and limits the Peruvian president from making terms with Spain until the islands are recovered or taken by force. The Peruvian fleet cruises for exercise. The Spanish flagship at Chincha was destroyed by fire on the 26th last. News suggests opportunities for Peru to attack remaining Spanish ships. further details awaited. The Bolivar state revolution persists. Salvador reports arrests of suspected pirates tied to ex-President Barnes. suspects released due to lack of evidence. Prisoners claim orders from the Confederate government to join war vessels on the coast. Lancaster, Saginaw, and St Marys lie at Panama. Saginaw to sail northward on the 6th.
