Lancaster to Get a New Hotel in Concord News

In Concord New Hampshire on December 12 notes report Lancaster will receive a new hotel. Other items include visits by Henry Morrill of Boston to his son in Tilton and Cerriton Holton visiting his father in Lancaster. Requiescat for Rev Warren S Emery a Vermont native who died of pneumonia in East Burke.

Explosion at Creighton house on Fremont street causes damage

An 8 AM gas explosion at the Creighton house on Fremont street injures servant Mary Connors, opens a gas jet in the laundry, and blows out basement walls and front windows. The building, owned by C W Galloupe and insured for 50,000, sustains about 1,000 in damage. a neighboring undertaker's shop is lightly damaged. Connors suffers severe burns and a broken right wrist, with no other serious injuries reported.

Two Maiden Ladies Murdered in Westmoreland County

From Greensburg, Pa a report says Miss Mary Means aged 83 was murdered and Miss Louisa Means aged 380 severely injured in Franklin township by Mollie Maguires. The victims were reputed wealthy with a large sum hidden at home.

Blaine to resign State Department this week

The New York Herald reports Mr Blaine will leave the state department this week with Mr Frelinghuysen as his successor. The change is expected to gain broad approval as Blaine’s temperament and tenure have been seen as ill suited to that role and have proved personally humiliating and politically unfortunate for the country.
