Colored Independents Endorse Halde man For Alderman

A meeting of independent colored voters at the old Franklin school house on Washington Street near Dover discussed aldermanic candidates. Leaders praised Maj. Cyrus S. Haldeman while some urged support for Mr. Kelly. ultimately the vote endorsed Haldeman with Palmer also supported, and the gathering adjourned amid cheers for Haldeman Whitten and Palmer.

Train derailed near Saugus River. injuries minor

An 8 A M Boston train on the Boston Revere Beach and Lynn line derailed when a journal broke on the smoking car near the Saugus River bridge. One passenger, Charles Sherman, injured a knee. A wheel on the tender broke and the smoker damaged. Lynn service resumed in the afternoon.

Pacific railroads debt report shows Union Pacific balance

The Central Pacific railroad company has deposited 1,282,000 in the Scon ury and the balance of 901,837.03 due from Union Pacific remains unsettled due to disputes over new construction and equipment. The total indebtedness of subsidized Pacific railroads to the United States as of June 30, 1982 is listed for Union Pacific.
