Letter From a Prisoner and Civil War News Briefs
A prisoner letter from Jas. Patrick of Chester to Col. A Neish reports 27 men held in Richmond jail after a skirmish. 300 Georgia cavalry captured them and Sergeant Bryson was wounded. Reconnaissance by Gen. Heintzelman and Sumner's divisions near Occoquan and Fairfax show no opposition. Forage moves and price controls are noted. A colors presentation is planned for Col. Birney and Capt. Gibson. Republicans convened in caucus with a Bingham plan on rebel property and emancipation. Alarm in New York divisions prompted troops to sleep on their arms.
