Wakefield Man Killed by Auto, Reading Road Crossing
William Hickey, 58, of Wakefield, was struck and killed last night at 5 30 by an auto driven by Walter H. Chaplin of Haverhill and owned by C. H. Davis, a Haverhill furniture dealer, as he crossed Salem street near the Reading Wakefield fair grounds.

Chauffeur Chaplin Charged in Wakefield Manslaughter
The Reading police arrested chauffeur Chaplin on a manslaughter charge after a car collision killed Hickey of Wakefield. The car, traveling about 20 miles per hour, struck Hickey as he stepped into the roadway. Chaplin claimed he could not avoid the impact. Hickey, deaf, died minutes after being rushed to Wakefield doctors. Chaplin posted $1000 bonds and was released. arraignment in Woburn is slated for Monday.
