Riels remains moved to Winnipeg for Catholic funeral

Riel's body arrived in Winnipeg from Regina under priestly escort in a private car. The cortege crossed the river to St Boniface where Alexander Riel and other relatives awaited. The pallbearers carried the casket to St Vitels to the family home. The funeral is set for Saturday at St Boniface Cathedral with requiem mass before burial in the Catholic cemetery.

Old Black Joe's origin figure dies at Dallas poor farm

Joe Parker a Black man reportedly 125 years old died at the Dallas poor farm. His last words urged waking for the great jubilee. Parker had been enslaved in Alabama Georgia and Texas for 160 years of his life and was the original of Old Black Joe in Milt Barlow's character song bearing that title.

New Haven Veterinarian Dies After Suicide

H J McHugh a well known veterinary surgeon of New Haven Conn committed suicide this afternoon by taking Laudanum. He swallowed the fatal dose in his office then rushed into the street and collapsed. He was taken to the hospital where he died soon after arrival.

Mystery clothing found near Montello station

A package with a man's complete suit was found beside a stream at Old Colony station Montello. Pantaloons bore the name Dr Donovan on a pocket while hats and boots were missing. Papers named H A Brett and K K Wilbur were found. Police took charge. Dr Donovan and his Quincy-based brother denied ownership. no crew found for the owner.

A public meeting at Phenix Hall in Nockland under Knights of Labor saw A. A. Carlton, chairman of District 30, warn that reducing labor costs and the clash of new labor with capital would trigger more strikes nationwide unless changes occur within months.

Mary Harrison Arrest After Theft From Mrs Malenson

Saloon Shooting in Gloucester Leaves Man Wounded

In Gloucester Massachusetts William Shea drew a horse pistol and shot Caldwell at the Lasonte saloon during an altercation with Charters Casey. Two pistol shots hit Caldwell in the face and neck while one struck the arm. Shea fled and has not been arrested.
