The Halifax mayor urges residents to stay away from the city as relief efforts struggle. Officials say food and shelter are insufficient for locals. relief workers and mechanics may stay, while non residents are asked to depart. City launches appeal for 25 million dollars to fund relief, with Boston workers currently busy.
The government detained Captain Lamedoc of Mont Blanc and Pilot Mackay after the Halifax blast. Survivors of Imo were seized and held aboard a British cruiser as naval officials prepare a public inquiry led by Justice Drysdale. Investigators say the explosion was accidental, not enemy plotting.
