New York dec 9 The coroner's inquiry into the death of Imeline Dale child of Elizabeth Howe Dale ended in Hoboken with a verdict of accidental poisoning. Ten witnesses testified and key figures included Dr Kudlich County Physician Converse and E F Billings of Boston.
Joseph Mack, 23, of 142 West Third Street South Boston, hailed as gallant after aiding a distressed woman near Washington and Compton streets. A fight broke out with James Teed, 25, of 121 Fimerson Street, South Boston, gore spilled, patrolman separated them, both jailed by Lieutenant O Rourke as the case was deemed too complex.
A box car loaded with workmen on the Cincinnati Richmond and Muncie railway jumped the track two miles east of PPRU Indiana and rolled down a embankment. One man died, two were seriously injured, others sustained minor injuries. Perry Sanders of North Judson was trapped beneath a red hot stove and rescued with severe injuries.
Conroy, winner of the Brooklyn Handicap last May, has been shipped to England by his owners R. and F. P. It is expected to capture a prize there after valuable stake events in England this season.
Taunton December hearing on Miss S Angeline Wilbur principal of North School Street School concluded with the school committee finding no excess force used against John F Murphy. The panel forbade clothespins as punishment in Taunton schools and ordered stricter limits on corporal discipline.
In Scranton on Luzerne Street an attempt to arrest a man led to a riot as miners attacked Special Officer Frank Schofield Detective Cosgrove and their escort. The ensuing firefight left three mob members wounded and two officers and a non union motorman firing back until retreating to Main Street. Schofield, a striking conductor, was to be backed by Magistrate Millar if needed.
Boston voters head to the polls today to elect a mayor for two years among four candidates. Democrats claim a lead with General Patrick A. Collins and expect a majority up to 10,000, while Republicans back Thomas N. Hart. Weather dampens turnout with rain turning to snow flurries, then clearing as winds shift. Local forecasts suggest overall colder conditions. Major offices on the ballot include Aldermen and Common Council, with School Board races drawing heavy attention in a busy election year.
A large Democratic rally at Lyceum Hall East Boston drew about 2000 attendees. Congressmen and local figures praised General Collins, urging voters to back him for mayor. Speakers attacked Mayor Hart’s tenure and touted party unity ahead of the election.

Mrs Elizabeth Grogan widow of Richard Grogan who was killed by Charles R Eastman is named in a Superior Court suit by a Boston dry goods firm seeking 118.91 for goods alleged sold to her. Joseph Willard and George E Gilbert trustees of the estate of Alvan S Clark are also defendants and have been enjoined from paying her estate funds or transferring property pending the action.
Muscatine Iowa December 9 The city water works valued at 100000 were sold today for county taxes totaling 806 The city had bought the plant last spring for 109000 and it proved unpayable due to back taxes The old company dissolved and would not settle The county moved to seize the property and a prominent real estate dealer bought it and plans to defend the case in court The city attorney will contest the motion.
Frankfort Kentucky December 9 Berry Howard charged with the murder of William Goebel asserts he had no part in any plot. He states he offered to tell officers what he knew before the indictment and that he is the personal friend of Goebel. He appeals for suspension of judgment until he can be heard in court.
The McKinley Memorial Arch Association will seek Congressional support for the memorial arch in Washington. Secretary Gage proposed the move and it was adopted. The group will be re incorporated and existing contributions will be returned.
Due to extended duties, the police tonight began at midnight instead of the usual 1 am. The shift change provides the officers an extra hour of rest before duty.
The Washington Post reports Andrew Carnegie offers 10 million dollars to establish a postgraduate university in Washington. The plan, modeled after the Smithsonian, would be government trustees managing a large endowment to fund original research and elevate U.S. science to rival Germany. Universities presidents endorse, sites and specifics to be arranged.
Gloucester reports the schooner Golden Red under Captain Norman Ross docking at noon with 12 1/2 barrels of frozen herring aboard.
