The Alda performance is hailed as a revelation showing Wagnerian influence and Verdi melody, with recitatives dominating the opening and a grand finale. Critics note strong singing from Mme Potential and Del Puente, improved Carpi, and Miss Cary’s Amneris delivering real presence, while the Globe setting earns praise and the season begins solidly.
