Three Railmen killed in New Haven Harlem Line crash
New York December 8 switch engine No 76 of the New Haven Harlem River branch left the track near Port Morris station days after 2 am. Engineer Thomas Fitzgerald brakeman Fred Maples and brakeman Thomas McNally died in the wreck. Fireman Thomas McKeon conductor Thomas Bannon and brakeman John Toth were injured. Toth signaled the rival Cannon Ball freight to stop and saved others. The cause is unknown though a broken rail is suspected.
