Fire destroys much of Colonial Can plant in South Boston

A large portion of the Colonial Can Company five story brick plant at 28 Pittsburg Street South Boston was burned out in a fire starting just before midnight on the third floor. Three alarms summoned the Peninsular district and downtown apparatus plus two fireboats, with water streams attack from all sides. By 1 oclock the fire was contained to the can plant and damage is estimated at about $20000.

Officers William Cogan Michael O Hara and Joseph Battis were taken to Relief Hospital after a passing car injured them. Battis was bitten on the right hand while Cogan sustained a severed tendon. Battis and O Hara returned to the station after treatment.
