Hanukah Festival Observed Worldwide
The Jewish festival of Hanukah began at sundown last night and will run eight days. Families light candles at home, children sing Hebrew songs, presents are exchanged, and special services are held in synagogues and temples.
Hanukkah Celebration Highlights Candle Lighting and Plays
Special significance rests on the children’s role during the celebration with plays in Hebrew portraying Judas Maccabeus and Queen Esther. The main feature is lighting nine branched silver menorahs over eight nights, with a light-kindler candle and a benediction. The ritual proclaims the miracle and teaches light and unity among Jewish families.
