Edwin A. Perkins district chief of Boston fire department sues for divorce alleging desertion dating from October 1, 1895. He said the proceeding will be uncontested and his wife is Mrs. Mabel D. Perkins.
In Manchester New Hampshire on December 5 Mrs Hannah A Currier widow of former Governor Moody Currier was swindled out of more than 40000 by a De Luxe agent who used her late husband to push a memorial biography and photograph for a future volume. The elderly widow deposited funds five years ago and learned of the ploy only now. Continued on Page 12-4th Column.
Alexander V. Wilson and Capt. Robert F. Bartlett outlined an aeroplane expedition to cross the North Pole into northern Siberia. Backing is assured and experiments will begin soon at Bath Harbor and along the Maine coast to test aircraft, engines, and equipment.
The Board of Railroad Commissioners orders equal monthly season ticket rates for suburban trains. No fare reduction, but buyers of two and three month passes gain no advantage. A 60 ride ticket must receive the road's lowest rate, about one half cent per mile.
The Rev. Shailer Matthews, dean of the University of Chicago Divinity School, was elected president of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America at its session in Chicago this afternoon.
A naval proposal outlines a fleet of 3 dreadnoughts, 2 battle cruisers, 16 destroyers, 6 submarines, 2 gunboats and auxiliaries including transports and tugs. Secretary Meyer in his annual report warns the United States must build more battleships to maintain national safety. He calls for three new battleships this year and says relying on two ships annually will drop America from second to fourth in naval power.
Secretary Meyer asserts international peace has not brought any bearer and argues for a permanent navy of 41 capital ships to guard the coast and protect commerce. He notes the current battleship strength is about 33 with four ships due for retirement as obsolete.
Thieves entered the Quincy A. Vinal residence at 9 Alderly street between 6 30 and 7 30 while occupants had supper and stole two gold watches two gold chains a diamond ring opera glasses and cash. Some items had belonged to the family for years and were highly valued.
Ottawa Ont December 5 Canada proposes to add three of the most powerful battleships afloat at a cost of 35 million dollars to naval defence of the British empire. The vessels will be built in Great Britain and form part of the British fleet but can be recalled to join a Canadian navy if needed. Premier R L Borden announced the policy in a long address in the House of Commons noting Germany's naval policy and the burden on Britain. Public interest was high and the announcement drew crowds in the floors and galleries.
Premier Borden in opening his speech stressed Canada and other dominions growing needs. He warned of balancing cooperation with autonomy and urged an empire wide organized defense and trade framework for vital concerns.
At the Cat Fanciers Club show in New Grand Central Palace New York, a $2000 bid for Bungalow Tip Top, winner of best cat and best long haired male, was refused. Owner Mrs. Chester W. Chapin had paid $750 for him after his January Boston show victory.
Dec 15 cable reports J M Green, an American feared lost in the typhoon that swept the Visayan Islands, survived and reached Boracay. Green was in a launch when the storm struck. His wife, previously anxious for word, is traveling to the Philippines.
