Washington Episcopal diocese seeks incorporation and bishop vote

The Washington Episcopal diocesan convention decided to ask Congress for incorporation of the new diocese and set a bishop salary at 5000 dollars per year. After three failed ballots amid a two thirds rule, the body abolished that rule for future conventions and anticipated a new convention where Dr Randolph McKim may be chosen bishop on the first ballot under the majority rule.

Edwin A Bilder of West Newton shot himself in the Preble House Portland after a, love disappointment and naval rejection. He had attended the Naval Academy at Annapolis, graduated with honors, and spent six years at sea before failing the medical exam. Coroner E N Perry took charge and arrangements will bring his remains to West Newton for interment. His mind had become unsettled by the loss of love and career, with family eccentricities noted and a mysterious dark haired girl described as a companion shortly before his death.

Rev F H Smith Committed to St Elizabeths Asylum

Rev Frank Hyatt Smith of Cambridge was brought to Washington on the Boston express by his brother Stanley E. Smith and confined at St Elizabeths Asylum for the insane on the outskirts of the city. His condition is unstable with periods of violence, and he must be constantly watched. His wife has cared for him and plans to join him in New York during confinement. No visits were allowed and the superintendent declined to comment.

Jones acquitted in intoxication case in South Boston

Herbert C. Jones was charged in South Boston District Court with drunkenness. Prosecutor Levi P. Fernald, a patrolman and Jones's employer, allegedly assaulted Jones after a salary dispute and had him taken to the station. Judge Fallon was severe in summing up. Jones was discharged.

A burglar entered Alfred W. Fitzs Chelsea home and stole 100 yards of carpet valued at 1200 dollars. The thief used a carpenter s knife borrowed from Royal A. Fifield to remove carpet tacks, leaving nicks in the blade. Fifield, returning the tool, alerted police.
