Collision Kills Six on Denver & Rio Grande Train

A rear end collision at English Switch six miles east of Salida killed six people and injured several others aboard two Denver & Rio Grande trains. Victims include C. E. Osgood H. R. Matthews Peter Barnes and A H Johnston with A M Johnston severely injured. Johnston was Oberlin College trustee and Arkansas Midland president. The derailment occurred after a signal failure as a following standard gauge train struck a stopped narrow gauge sleeper.

Two New Smallpox Cases in Chelsea Raise Count to Twenty Seven

Health officials report two new smallpox cases in Chelsea bringing total to 27. Patients Gladys M. and Charles F.
