Indictments in Building Trust Case Surface in New York
A New York legislative committee halted its probe into the Builders' Supply Bureau and the Association of Dealers in building materials and sent evidence to the housing grand jury which indicted two officials for contempt. The panel then opened a separate inquiry into the brick industry and towing monopoly on the Hudson River. Brick makers denied price fixing, noting informal price alignment among three agents. Cornell Towing Co was alleged to hold a river towing monopoly and to have raised rates over 600 percent, impacting brick firms’ costs.
