Money Market Edges Up in Boston in Early December
The Boston money market firmed with clearing house rates at 4 percent, higher than since last April. Time loans run 4 to 6 percent, with collateral loans at 4.5 percent. Clearing house balances show banks loaned at 34 to 4 percent, New York funds discounted, and bond offerings totaling 577,500 dollars. The local stock market opened weak with heavy selling, led by Atchison and copper issues, while Calumet & Hecla and Frenchman’s Bay Land outperformed. The death of Atchison’s Third Vice President J. J. Goddard was announced in Boston.
