Advertisers tout a new suit line named Knock about for boys clothing. The note credits the publisher with origin and copyright and promotes the suits as strong retail cards and lasting advertisement.
Maritime notices list vessels arriving or sailing from Boston New York Baltimore Philadelphia Southampton Dover Prawle Point and other ports. Names include Flamborough Sionia Wieland Schweigaard Aguan Nasmyth Laurestina Minnesota Augusta Victoria Saxonia Rhine Assyrian Ocean King Prudentia Rocklight Atlantander Ponce de Leon Henry IV Kingvalla Albano Hans & Kurt Othello Scandinavian California Darwin Olympia Puerto Richmond ill.
The Brackett executive committee met in conference and heard cheering reports. Also noted are items about racing at Crescent Beach under the New England Swimming Association and a Labor Day car running notice. Governor Ames sails with John Stetson aboard Sapphire and Canadian Sir Richard Cartwright comments on Behring Sea seizures.
The Citizens' Bank of Prargmz City Iowa failed with liabilities estimated at 75000 to 100000 and assets said to exceed that sum. Bank officers expect to pay all debts in full and resume business in a few days. Insolvency of cashier J W Roach, long a heavy speculator, triggered depositor withdrawals and alarm.
New York on August 30, the Hamburg American Line steamer Columbia arrived after breaking the Needles to Sandy Hook record. Time was six days, eighteen hours, twenty minutes.
Andrew J Lloyd, an optician formerly located at 323 Washington Avenue opposite Milk Street head, is noted in city directories as established in 1870 with Harvard Place reference. The fragmentary listing suggests a long-standing practice with historical ties to the area.
London August 30. Wharfingers draft a compromise plan for dock laborers with piece rates and a minimum weekly pay of 243. Mr Burns and the strike committee fail to agree, with another meeting set for tomorrow. Strikes loom as unions threaten a massive walkout unless an earlier ultimatum is accepted by noon tomorrow. Cardinal Manning and others meet dock company officials to plead the strikers' cause. Lightermen at Woolwich strike. Brisbane unions offer jobs to 240 London strikers. dock insurance drops.
London August 30 Parliament prorogued to November 16 in a speech from the Queen. She notes cordial relations with other powers, mentions Samoa conference, a Brussels meeting on slave trade, and agreements with France on West Africa borders. She praises naval funding, Scotland reforms, Wales technical education, Ireland rail links, and calls for unity and prosperity under divine care.
The Comte de Paris issues an electoral manifest urging Conservatives to unite and tolerate Boulangists to curb an oppressive faction. He argues revision will liberate France from servitude and restore religious peace, and doubts Imperialists will refuse to support the plan.
A fragment urging support for a strong monarchy while appealing to all who wish to found an honest republic. The text urges unity and public backing for constitutional order and reform efforts.
Vienna reports a bad Montenegrin harvest and looming famine. The government considers large scale emigration, mainly to Servia, as the only relief. Servia is described as fertile with suitable land, but Belgrade has not yet discussed or accepted mass Montenegrin immigration.
Lucerne August 30 United States minister Washburn filed a formal protest with the Bundesrath over the wrongful arrest of four American tourists at Berne on pickpocket charges. The four were released after two days imprisonment and no apology was offered. He seeks heavy damages.

A Shanghai despatch to the Standard says Pekin reports high Chinese officials petitioned Prince Chun to expel all Americans employed in China. It is reported Prince Chun consents.
Crete is declared fully occupied by Turkish forces as Chakir Pasha issues a order to restore order and warns of severe penalties for resistance. Other items note Congo State governance changes by King Leopold, Armenian issue in Turkey, a prison medical examination, Pekin to Chinkiang railway bids, Londonderry farewell, Yokohama flood deaths, and bank liquidity in Italy.
At Mystic the three day Peace meeting adopted a resolution to build a peace temple for lectures and arbitration training. It urged a $10,000 Connecticut Senate appropriation and local contributions, with location at the group’s usual meeting place and a committee to carry out the plan. Other resolutions praised the W CIA peace department and French peace delegates.
The woman Donnelly stabbed by Mrs. Hamilton last Monday was pronounced out of danger today by attending physicians. Mrs. Hamilton may be released on bail pending her trial September 10.
The Republican central committee of the District of Columbia met to protest the District commissioners not appointing more Republicans to office. About twenty-five colored and twelve white men attended. They accuse the President of unfair patronage and urge equal representation in minor offices. Commissioner Douglas notes the unwritten law of party balance and says time needed to study District affairs, with Democrats holding larger shares in leading offices.
Treasury Department overrules Boston appraiser on 50 percent duty for medicinal soaps imported by Martello. Soaps not proprietary, to be taxed 20 percent ad valorem as not otherwise provided for. Acting Secretary Datcheller cites Attorney General Garland guiding classification. Examinations show ichthytical tar sulphur and creoline soaps contain typical medicinal ingredients added during standard soap making.
Postmaster General Wanamaker orders a $1000 reward for arrest and conviction in federal court of anyone who robs or attacks a stage coach or railway mail in transit, covering the year ending June 30, 1890. The prior $200 reward offer from July 16, 1889 is rescinded.
The State Department reports Honduras has named Senor Jeromino Zelaya as delegate to the international American congress, with arrival in New York on September 24. Ecuador assigns ex-President Jose Mana Camano as delegate to the same congress.
AS CHIEF OF DIVISION, Mr. Pike of Newburyport Mass will assume duties as chief of division in the office of the second comptroller on Monday. He is expected to be assigned to the pension division. He would have preferred the quartermaster's division, but Mr. Gilkeson could not arrange it at present.
Eben Appleton of New York replies to General Maclerley about loaning the original Star Spangled Banner for a Baltimore exposition. He cites the flag’s fragile condition, heavy weight, past damage, and risk from relic hunters, transportation, and fire, urging preservation over display. Mrs McPherson, Baltimore widow of Captain McPherson, contests Appleton’s claim to possession and says the flag is buried with her husband in Greenmount Cemetery.

In Philadelphia PumapetpentA August 80 an elevator cable broke sending the car from the third floor to the basement. Five nurses and the elevator boy were injured including Miss Alice Millsbaugh with a sprained ankle, Nurse Burrus with an ankle fracture, Nurse Chauncy with spinal concussion, Nurse Wilkinson with a compound ankle fracture, and Nurse McDonald with an ankle fracture. Wilkinson is reported in dangerous condition. The car was wrecked and all occupants escaped what was deemed a near death experience.
In Manassas Virginia a Confederate dead memorial was unveiled with townspeople and country guests present. State Senator E E Meredith presented the monument to the Ladies Memorial Association. The thirty five foot brownstone shaft was quarried from the battlefield. Speakers included Senator Daniel and General W H F Lee.
