Rebels Capture Fort Saint Michael Amidst Haitian War News
The State of Georgia reports rebels seized Fort Saint Michael forcing Geffrard’s troops to withdraw from Petite Aure. A Nassau blockade runner arrived with supplies while a few civilians died from fright and starvation. Three Geffrard officers were killed after being lured from the American Consul’s office. Prices for flour, rice, and sugar rose sharply. The rebels press on as desertions and oaths shrink government forces.
