Mrs. Alfred Kann of New York, staying at the Cliff House in Winthrop with her three children, was asked by hotel manager Fred J. Bochterle to surrender her room. A dispute followed with promises of a personal damages suit by the guest for humiliation and injury.
Patrolman Frank W. Larrivee of the Newton police is to have a public hearing before Mayor Edwin Childs at City Hall on larceny charges for tires. He was dismissed from the force on August 21 after 12 years of service amid friction. The case alleges that around August 8 he and John J. Healey removed two tires from a parked car on Washington Street Newton Lower Falls and later offered a ride to Sergeant J H Seaver and another patrolman, with officers testifying the tires were in the car and their hands showing the crime.
Officers Jones and English, Roxbury Crossing station, were pelted with rocks and bottles by a crowd of at least 40 young men on Heath and Lawn streets after arresting two men for drunkenness. Jones fired two shots in the air as rioters retreated, with both officers struck but not seriously hurt.
Rebels opened fire on the congregation at a memorial service for Michael Collins in Westport County Mayo. Five people were killed and several wounded in the attack reported from Dublin on August 29.
Masked insurgents seized Edward Sherwood claiming he drove Michael Collins’s car during the fatal ambush. After two shots at him, they fled. Sherwood was wounded in the ankle but feigned death and escaped once the attackers left.
Incomplete results from 147 precincts statewide show Moore ahead for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate with 623 to Johnson 2636. In Los Angeles area precincts Moore 496 and Johnson 208, while for governor incomplete counts favor Stephens and Richardson with 1430 and 42 respectively.
Police arrested George Kaufman 19 for punching his 18 year old sweetheart Lillian Abdullah in the eye at their South End addresses. Abdullah reported the attack at the Fast Dedham street station, showing the injury as evidence for a warrant. Kaufman faces assault charges and will appear in court this morning.
President Harding indicated Congress should grant him blanket authority to take over coal mines and railroad lines only in grave need. He will not request formal legislation and says he will use such power only as a last resort, though he remains opposed to broad action.
Miss Harriet Stegman 22 a Federal Reserve Bank clerk and sister of a Boston bank official faced vagrancy charges in Jefferson Market Court New York. She was committed to Kingston Avenue Hospital for treatment before sentencing. She alleged a Buffalo man John D Taylor wooed her in Boston and New York, living as her husband and urging marriage while supporting them, then pressuring her into a life of shame.
Milwaukee, Aug 29. An ex love bonus failed for Adolph Loose in answer to his wife’s divorce petition. He is 61 and she 42. married August 1921. Loose says they signed a prenuptial agreement by which she would receive 0 for each year of happiness. The plan lasted ten years but petered out and both now accuse the other of desertion.
Dr Marcus M Hennebery of Warren wins a Ford touring car in the Ford a Day contest with his story Unexpected Competition. The presentation was made by Postmen in Warren this afternoon to the dentist, his wife, and 17 month old Catherine Hennebery who reacted with delight.
A full grown buck deer dashed across outbound Boston Elevated tracks in Arlington Massachusetts avenue early yesterday. Motorman William Walker stopped the eight passenger car with emergency brakes just inches from the deer. The animal leaped off the tracks and escaped unharmed onto the Arlington High School lawn.
Myer Small, 15, of 23 Hansborough Street Dorchester, was hit on Blue Hill Avenue Mattapan by Clayton B Brober of 241 West Street Mansfield. Brober took him to City Hospital where he had multiple contusions abrasions and possible internal injuries.

A balance sheet as of April 30 shows Ford Motor Company of Delaware earned about 60 million dollars in the year ending that date. Cash and receivables stood at 148.6 million with debts receivable up 58.62 million, while payables declined by over 15 million. Total accumulated earnings reached about 240.5 million, up from 182.9 million a year earlier.
The Senate without a record vote approved using interest on the foreign debt to finance the soldiers’ bonus and substituted the Smith McNary 350 million reclamation bill for the land settlement option in the House measure. Springfield dispatch says bonds of 6000 for the appearance of William P. Ayles were forfeited. Ayles, a Negro ex serviceman, is wanted on an assault with intent to kill charge stemming from a November shooting in a club room aimed at another man in a love affair dispute.
