Italian forces push on the Bainsizza plateau as General Cadorna’s troops renew heavy attacks on a strong Austrian line. The day yields 1000 additional prisoners amid one of the great battles of the drive, with official Rome reports limited in detail.

Samuel Gompers of the AFL told the State Federation of Labor in Jamestown that organized labor stands behind the nation and the President in the war effort. He likened pro-German elements to workers defying a strike and said the I W W should have government protection until proven guilty in court.
The bulletin notes continued fighting on the Bainsizza Plateau with troops overrunning enemy rear guards and pressing a strong defensive line. It reports gains on heights beyond Gorizia, the capture of more than 1000 prisoners and several machine guns, and mentions 247 airplanes participating.
Rome reports Italian merchant marine losses for the week ended Aug 26 include one large steamer two small steamers and two small sailing vessels. One steamer was unsuccessfully attacked. Ports saw 588 vessels arrive totaling 388 565 tons and 557 vessels depart at 363 765 tons.
London reports from the weekly admiralty statement showing eighteen ships over 1600 tons sunk, up from fifteen the prior week, and five ships under 1600 tons, up from three. No fishing vessels were lost. Arrivals 2629, sailings 2680, attacks repelled six.
The Boston public schools will open on Monday September 10 with teachers and supervising staff required to report for duty. Secretary of the school committee Thornton D Apollonio announced the start date yesterday and the regular work of the schools will begin that day.
The adjutant general's orders in New England call for 5 percent of each division quota to be sent to Camp Devens at Ayer for initial formation. The advance guard will depart in sequence from Sept 5 to Sept 8, allocating one percent daily, with transportation and meals arranged by local boards.
Instructions issued to local boards govern the sending of the first draft to camp. The note specifies that in calculating percentages a fraction of five tenths or more counts as one man.

Detroit routed Cleveland 15 to 1 and Chicago defeated St. Louis 6 to 0 in the first game. in the second game Chicago beat St. Louis 11 to 1. In the National League Cincinnati edged Boston 5 to 4 in 10 innings while Brooklyn beat Chicago 2 to 1 and St. Louis took Philadelphia 5 to 3 as New York won 6 to 5 over Pittsburg.

Frank Libby aged 28, agent of the Marine Fire Oilers and Water Tenders Union, affiliated with the A F of L, was stabbed in the abdomen about 6 PM while walking from the North Ferry. He and accompanying delegates identified a lone attacker who fled. Police detained six men linked to the I W W office on Commercial Street for questioning.
