Samuel T. Nute, 26, killed himself with a bullet after a fierce clash with police and firemen at 31 Youle Street Melrose. The house was set ablaze during the confrontation as shots were fired.
Police attempting to take Nate from Frank T. Nute's home faced a prolonged firefight. Nate fired on officers, set his room aflame, and died by his own hand after a dramatic siege that damaged the house and left Samuel Nute found dead in a closet.

The Quebec bridge collapse over the St. Lawrence kills and injures workers. The cantilever span, 1800 feet long, linked Quebec and Levis. Construction by Phoenix Iron Company of Pennsylvania cost 10 million dollars and took five years.
At 5:30 p m a section of the world’s largest bridge spanning the St Lawrence broke free near Quebec. 102 Phoenix Iron Works workers fell 200 feet into the river. 92 are dead and 10 escaped but many will die. 16 bodies recovered. all victims American. Rescue efforts continue as crowds watch in horror.
Early morning fire at the Hotel Canta briga, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, caused by a janitor’s paint shop. J J Connell and his son carried tenants to safety as flames spread rapidly, gutting the six story building owned by A W Strauss valued at $300,000. Gas pipes melted, several suites burned, and a general alarm was sent as firefighters struggled with dense smoke and wind driven flames.
