Samuel Dede dian, proprietor of the Pretoria Cafe at 722 Commonwealth avenue Back Bay, was shot last night after defiantly ignoring a pistol held to his head and orders from three yegemen to surrender.
Joseph Lavine, 63, of 85 Forest Street Melrose, a blacksmith for Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway, died in Melrose Hospital from blood poisoning after a steel splinter scratch at work. He ignored the injury for two weeks before it worsened. he leaves a wife two daughters and a son.
Dublin leader Eamon de Valera is reported convalescing from wounds in a house near Bandon and later moving his quarters from Beathablath near Macroom, where the Collins ambush occurred. The information is described as authentic.
Forecasters expect improving conditions by midday with a fair afternoon and clear night. Temperatures stay moderate as a high builds in, bringing light winds and dry skies for the region.
Detroit August 27 The announcement by Henry Ford that limited coal and high steel costs will force the closure of several plants on Saturday September 16 for an indefinite period is viewed as the real onset of an industrial crisis.

Andrew Billota 36 of Somerville was shot in the spine by a 38 caliber revolver after an argument over cards in the Birmingham School yard. Vincenzo Albanese 36 of Somerville is in custody on assault with a dangerous weapon charges. Billota was taken to Somerville Hospital with his status listed as danger.
A blaze at Sherman I. Whipple's farm near the cow barn in Chiltonville wiped out a 25 by 60 foot storage building along with four tons of grain hay and farming tools. Firemen fought for three hours aided by two pumping engines and 2200 feet of hose. Origin unknown with no livestock harmed.
