Canned beans blamed as three die after night on Peddock Island

Three people including Joseph Oliver 38 and his two year old son died from suspected ptomaine poisoning after eating canned beans at a fisherman's camp on Peddock's Island. Antonio Gomes 68 also perished. The incident prompted a water-poisoning theory and a formal investigation. Bodies transported to Boston. funeral plans pending. Gomes, a Lisbon native, had long resided in East Cambridge and worked as a piano polisher. Oliver, born in Lisbon, was a fisherman.

Street duel injures teen with baby in arms

A 15 year old Jennie Milano was wounded in the arm during a street duel between Italians on North Street. Her eight month old sister was in her arms when she collapsed. she was rushed to Relief Hospital where Dr L B Packard located the bullet near the elbow after an operation.

Father Drowns While Recovering Hat in Swollen River

Carl Collins of Fall River drowned while swimming into Lee's river at Swansea to recover his hat after a gust blew it into the water. He was seen by his two young sons and a third boy on shore as he fought the current and sank. The body was recovered. a widow and three sons survive.

Fire causes $200 damage at Windsor estate in Medford

A Windsor street home on Cottage street suffered $200 in damage when an incendiary fire started at 12:30 a m. A passing policeman heard the alarm and the blaze was put out after the fire department arrived. Shavings piled in a room and two boys seen fleeing precede the discovery.
