Unknown middle aged woman collapses and dies in a Causeway Street restaurant. Police pursue one of the citys deepest mysteries as signs suggest long privation and possible drinking.
Three people including Joseph Oliver 38 and his two year old son died from suspected ptomaine poisoning after eating canned beans at a fisherman's camp on Peddock's Island. Antonio Gomes 68 also perished. The incident prompted a water-poisoning theory and a formal investigation. Bodies transported to Boston. funeral plans pending. Gomes, a Lisbon native, had long resided in East Cambridge and worked as a piano polisher. Oliver, born in Lisbon, was a fisherman.
A 15 year old Jennie Milano was wounded in the arm during a street duel between Italians on North Street. Her eight month old sister was in her arms when she collapsed. she was rushed to Relief Hospital where Dr L B Packard located the bullet near the elbow after an operation.
Readfield Me August 27. Robert Boutwell of Malden the Hotel Marana cook fire hero speaks his last words to his father and mother as he dies from smoke injuries. Boutwell saved the Martin family of Boston and others during the blaze.
A Post reporter visits Governor William S. Douglas at Monument Beach and reports strong indications he will seek a second term despite earlier refusals. Business leaders from across Massachusetts press for a change, and a committee of merchants is set to meet with the governor to present appeals.
The Post reports Governor Douglas at his Monu summer home said he has read with interest the matter and that the call will receive consideration and the prayer will be answered, foreshadowing a favorable outcome after a recent interview.
Joseph Reubinson 20 of 24 Anderson Street jumped on the shoulders of William Moore 35 Thordike Street West End to aid Patrolman Michael Casey. Moore allegedly beat Casey with the officer’s club prompting a crowd of Hebrews and Negroes to clash, cries of Carve them Jews and hostile uproar as officers restored order and Moore was jailed.
A plain woman collapses and dies in a busy North End cafe on Causeway Street. Physicians declare poison as the likely cause. No identification found. only a celluloid comb and missing jewelry remain as clues.
News from Hotel Wentworth in New Castle New Hampshire reports another postponement in peace talks. Japanese envoys await a reply from the Mikado to President Roosevelt proposals. Meeting moved to Tuesday afternoon to gauge possible further concessions.

In Franklin August 27 Bernard McDonald foreman for Hodge Boiler Works East Boston allegedly struck Michael Connors during a crossing near Pondfield. Connors died from a single blow. McDonald placed under arrest awaiting autopsy results.
Nicholas Mastriano and Rafaele Cammucci clashed after a dispute on Italian politics in Roxbury. Mastriano fired twice at Cammucci who returned fire. the shots missed and the fight continued before the scene descended into a pistol duel witnessed by a crowd.
Carl Collins of Fall River drowned while swimming into Lee's river at Swansea to recover his hat after a gust blew it into the water. He was seen by his two young sons and a third boy on shore as he fought the current and sank. The body was recovered. a widow and three sons survive.
A Windsor street home on Cottage street suffered $200 in damage when an incendiary fire started at 12:30 a m. A passing policeman heard the alarm and the blaze was put out after the fire department arrived. Shavings piled in a room and two boys seen fleeing precede the discovery.
Forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for fair conditions Monday and Tuesday with light easterly winds. New England remains fair Monday with warmer temperatures in the north west. Tuesday will be partly cloudy and warmer with possible showers in the west and fresh northeast to southeast winds. The prior week was warmer than usual in the West and Eastern districts until Friday when a cool wave moved into New England and the Middle Atlantic, reaching the South Atlantic by Saturday.
