Court records Two equity cases dismiss injunctions in 1870s docket
In C S District Court before Judge Clark the creditor of Lake Superior Ship Canal Railroad and Iron Co sought to enjoin bond sales used to fund the canal project. The court ruled a creditor may file such a bill but denied injunction without security, leading to dismissal. In a separate suit by Stule creditors of Gloucester the court found no fraud in a vessel mortgage timing and dismissed the bill.

Abandoned infant found at Hamilton Camp Meet
A six month old child was abandoned in a railroad car at Hamilton Camp Meet. Officer Bowler handed the infant to Mr and Mrs John Ashworth of Ballardvale who agreed to care for it. The child was named Hamilton Asbury Ashworth by Officer Wait. A woman soon claimed the child and, after proof of ownership, was given custody. She said the child’s grandmother placed it in the car without her consent. The column also notes local society events and several minor incidents in surrounding towns.
