Man Muller Arrested After Watch and Ring Found

Anxious Captain Champion fears escape and the health officer seize Muller's trunk. A watch missing from Mr Briggs and a black silk hat marked Digance were found sewn in leather. Muller identified by jeweller Mr Death as the culprit and was brought to Police Headquarters for interrogation and identification.

National Union Committee session ends without public business

Washington August 26 The Executive Committee of the National Union Committee adjourns with no public action and plans to meet next in New York. Lincoln canvass support remains firm and no withdrawal is anticipated. The Treasury issues a 7-30 circular offering exchange for 6 percent bonds due after June 30 1888 with interest up to October 1. Subscriptions to the 7-30 loan total 776000. Naval officer J O Shaw from the steamer Tahoma remains missing as the Navy seeks information.

Fortresses at City Point report quiet and unchanged

Arrivals from City Point today reflect a quiet army and steady positions. Hospital death tallies include H. W. Davis of the 2d Maine and W. Burr of the 14th New Hampshire among Hampton Hospital losses, with several lieutenants and sergeants listed from the 6th Connecticut to the 24th Massachusetts in Chesapeake Hospital.

Cavalry action near Halltown and Leetown reports

Special despatch details a dawn reconnaissance by a large cavalry force under Gen Torbett and Gen Wilson. They skirmished with Karly’s corps near Halltown and Leetown, then attacked the enemy’s line, capturing prisoners and routing skirmishers. Casualties listed include Maj. Serlick and several staff officers. Duffie notes no enemy force in Loudon County.
